It has been so much fun watching my daffodils and tulips that I planted last year popping up this spring and adding color and life to my yard. I just love to look at them. I wish I could say that our yard was beautiful too, but unfortunately we have many weeds vying for the spot of "our lawn" instead of the seed we planted last fall. The seed is there, but the weeds are much more prominent. It's okay though, that's the way it goes when you seed and the weeds will eventually get choked out. We may be the ugly yard on the block for a year or two, but soon enough we'll have a lovely lawn like the rest of them.
Our front flower bed
Such pretty tulips
Some late bloomers...still some to look forward to!
Our front lawn with all it's weeds
Our strawberries and raspberries...hopefully we'll have some yummy fruit this summer from them
Rob mowing our "weeds"
Our peach tree. I'm so sad I didn't get a picture of it with the "popcorn popping" blossoms on it
and of course...the girls are loving the warm weather too
This picture cracks me up. The girls are holding very still because there's a hornet nearby
And last but not least, we planted our garden! Our very first garden!
We planted all kinds of things: spinach, mixed greens, broccoli, green beans, peas, carrots, cucumbers, watermelon, peppers, tomatoes and we'll plant some corn in a few weeks.
Ani and Rob out prepping the garden for it's seeds
I must say it does make me a little nervous. It must be the amateur gardener in me. I mean all we did was put tiny little seeds in the ground and we're supposed to get vegetables from that? I'm adding some prayers in too just for good measure...and to help my little faith. I'm gonna be watching this ground like a hawk and the first little sprouts I see, you'll know about it. I can't wait!
It was such a beautiful day (April 21) and I'm glad we got to spend it as a family following the prophet. It feels good knowing we are doing our part and trying to be self reliant. Anisten loved putting the little seeds in the ground (she's especially excited about the watermelon). Happy Spring!
