So on June 23, my parents weren't able to do family dinner, so I decided that I would cook the 20 pound turkey I'd had in my freezer for two years for Sunday dinner. The week before, Rob took a new position at FritoLay that was much less stress and traveling, but also much less pay. We're obviously hoping it's only temporary because it's not an amount we can live on, but it gives him more time to look for a new job. So I decided to cook the turkey now so that we could stock our freezer with good food when money was tight. I honestly can't take any credit for it though. I called my mom and asked her all the questions about cooking a turkey and she said she'd just come help me because it was really a two person job to stuff it and Rob was going to be working Sunday morning. So she came with stuffing and a pan to cook it in and pretty much did all the prep work while I watched. But, now I know what to do in ten years when I cook a turkey again right? haha At any rate, it smelled wonderful and I did make all the fixins to go with it and took it out of the oven at the right time.. that counts for something doesn't it? ;) It was so good. Thanksgiving in June.
Anisten wanted me to take a picture of her plate too
Here's Rob enjoying the leg. I loved all of these pictures
Alivia sure loved it too! Now I've got a full belly and a freezer full of turkey! Woohoo!
The other fun part about our Sunday was that daddy put up the tent in the backyard for some backyard camping - or "glam"ping. The girls were ecstatic and so excited to go to bed.
Sure looks like a campground doesn't it? (Minus the house in the background)
After putting Alivia to bed we had a roast. A campout is not complete without some roasting around the fire and roasting we did. Here's Aivree enjoying her first smore.
Anisten got one too. We're not huge smore fans at our house. Not that we don't like them, we just think they're a little overrated. Neither one of the girls finished their smores, but they did enjoy eating them. We also roasted starbursts, which is a favorite for sure. Yummy
My babe and I. Sure love him
Cute picture of Aiv and her daddy
And Ani and me
....being goofy. She recently learned how to cross her eyes and does it in as many pictures as she can
Our fun fire
Rob managed to roast the perfect marshmallow. Look at that beauty. He's got skills
And here is our set up in the tent. Alivia got to sleep inside in her snug little bed (I hooked up the monitor to an extension cord) and the four of us slept together outside. Rob fell asleep before any of us, but once the girls went to bed, they slept pretty good. They were hot at first and later got cold, but they did good. I didn't sleep wonderfully, but that's pretty much expected right? It was a fun night and something the girls will remember and I'm sure want to do again. So much fun.
