Ya know, I've heard that being the middle child is the hardest position to be in a family. I'm not sure if that's true, but it seems to be that way right now for my little Aivree. Oh what a rough few months she has had since her little sister was born. It actually didn't even seem to affect her much negatively until about a month after Alivia was born and then she started having potty accidents. At first it was just peeing, but now it's mostly pooping accidents. She's in a Pull-up most of the time now, just because I was really getting sick of cleaning it out of her panties and I'd thrown a few away already. Shortly after her accidents started, Anisten started going to Kindergarten and she was getting all kinds of attention for that. Poor little Aivree was wondering where she fit in in this world. She wasn't a new baby and she wasn't starting school and I just don't think she was feeling very important. She started acting out behaviorally (as well as Anisten, which is common with a new baby) and she's started to be really clingy to me. She's also done things to hurt Alivia which has been really scary and we can't help but get mad at her for that.
A couple weeks ago we were over at the Rollin's for Sunday dinner and her and Anisten were playing in the backyard. They have a big rock retaining wall and Aivree was playing on them and fell off onto her wrist. She acted like it hurt really bad and we were concerned, but the next day she was able to move it around and she didn't seem to affected by it. But throughout the week whenever we would touch it or hold her wrist she would say it hurt her and she would still favor it at times too. She actually fell on it again on Saturday and started screaming because it hurt so much. Rob talked to a guy in our ward who's a doctor and he said it's very common for kids to break their wrists and it sounded like that was what she had done, so Rob took her in on Monday and she came home with a cute little pink cast on her arm. It made me so sad.
The worst part (the break) was over so she was actually pretty happy about her new cast (little did she know how much "fun" a cast can be)
They gave her a waterproof cast so the first thing she wanted to do after she got home from getting her cast was swim. She wanted to test out it's "waterproofness" (not a word, I know)
In a way, it has been good because it's given her a lot of attention that she's desperately needed, but nobody wants a broken bone or to have to wear a cast! My heart just goes out to her right now. I know that it's normal for kids to regress and go through adjustments when a new baby comes to the family. Its just hard for a mother to watch your child struggle that way and not be able to do much about it. Her cast needs to be on for three weeks so she's got another week and a half to go. She really has been good about it and since it's waterproof, there's not much she can't do. Her only complaint is that sometimes it itches, and that's an understandable annoyance.
We've tried really hard to give all of our kids the attention they need and deserve. With each of my children I feel like I'm spread so thin for awhile and unable to give everyone the attention I'd like to, including myself and my hubby. I know this is a phase and that we'll get through it. It just takes time...and a whole lot of patience.
One thing that Aivree really loves to do with Alivia is lay by her when she's looking at this little toy. I catch her doing this a lot and Alivia loves it because she loves getting attention from anyone (as long as Aivree isn't hurting her in some way)
My sweet little Aivree Lou. I sure do love you
Another change in Aivree's little life (not quite so dramatic) is that I finally decided to get her first haircut (August 30, 2012). It's so funny how big a deal it is for a girl. If I had boys they'd possibly have a million haircuts by the time they're three, but I like to wait to cut my girl's hair because I just love those baby curls. I hate to see them go. Look how long it is!
Such beautiful "Rapunzel" hair. I've actually really liked it because it's so thin and curly and I can do all kinds of fun up-do's. The only thing making me want to cut it is the fight I deal with when it's time to brush it out (probably not going to change) and the fact that it is seriously SOOO long that I feel like I have to pull it up every day.
We'd have to get it cut sometime though, so I figured now was a good a time as any
Here she is in the chair ready to go. She was a very good girl
Such a cute girl. Rob had some rules that we couldn't cut it too short, but I wanted to cut it enough that you could tell a difference.
Here she is with her much shorter 'do. I love it. I think it's super cute
I thought all these pictures were cute too, so I decided to put them all in
Anisten got another little cut too. Might as well, right. Now they both have about the same length of hair
My cute girls. They're wearing their new BYU shirts too.
