My little Aivree turns 3 on March 18 and seeing as how we have a baby on the way, I was a little bit stressing about the fact that Aivree had absolutely no desire to use the toilet. I tried training her just after she turned two which was obviously way too early because it didn't go well at all. It wasn't traumatic or anything, but there was definitely no success and lots of clean up, so I abandoned the idea after a week. Since then we have nonchalantly mentioned going on the potty to her and she has always been very adamant about NOT wanting to use the potty. She even told me once how much she liked that she could go potty standing up. She'd often be standing there telling me that she was peeing or something. I decided not to push it, but that it was something she'd decide on her own apparently.
I made her a potty progress chart at the beginning of February that had four toilets on it and then an ice cream cone. There were five rows of this and on the last row, instead of an ice cream cone there was written the word Boondocks. So each time she went in the potty she got a sticker and treat and after four times in the potty we'd go to get ice cream somewhere. After doing that four times we'd go to Boondocks. I figured by the time we got to the Boondocks row she'd be potty trained. Surprisingly she got really excited about her new chart. It didn't bring immediate results, but it got her thinking about it at least.
A couple different nights before going to bed she'd sit on the toilet and force out a few drops of pee and we'd cheer and get all excited and put a sticker on her chart. Progress is progress right? One day I decided to put her in panties just so she could feel the difference. I told her that she needed to pee in the potty if she was going to wear panties. She had about four accidents and then we put her back in a diaper. But the next day as I was getting her dressed she said she wanted the big girl panties on. I told her she'd need to go in the potty and she said okay. I put her in the panties and a little while later suggested that her and Anisten go potty on the toilet. Ani on the big one and Aivree on her potty seat. Magically, a few minutes later she had peed in her potty!! And about an hour after that, I asked her to go on the potty again and she did! And then again an hour later...and an hour after that! I honestly couldn't believe it was happening. We went that night to get ice cream and she actually peed her pants while we were there, but I didn't care because she had made so much progress that day. She has done amazingly since then and it's seriously weird how she did a 180 degree turn regarding the potty. I guess our timing was finally right. She does have accidents now and again and I'm sure it'll be that way for a little while. She's still not waking up dry at night either, but all in good time. I'm just so glad I don't have to change diapers for a few months before our little newborn arrives. I'm still buying diapers, but that's to get stocked up for Alivia, not because I have to for my almost 3 year old. Hallelujah!! Way to go Aivree Lou!!
Anisten was obviously thrilled with Aivree becoming a big girl because if she got ice cream that meant Ani got ice cream too. Boondocks for Aivree, Boondocks for Ani too!
Ani was a great little cheerleader and still gets very excited every time Aivree goes in the potty.
Her completed potty chart. We had to start putting stickers all over because we ran out of toilets
