What a Deal

So a few months before we moved into our house I decided I needed to start couponing if we were going to be able to afford to eat. I'd heard about it from several of my friends and then Aimee had a Grocery Smarts class at her house where they kind of taught us how to go about couponing and getting good deals. So, I began ordering 5 Sunday newspapers and collecting all my coupons and slowly building up a stock of food and I gotta say..I'm hooked. It's so fun for me to go to the store and have my total bill be under a dollar. Granted that doesn't happen very often, but I find joy in getting any good deal. :) Recently Albertson's had a pretty good sale and I jumped on it. Here's what I got...

I spent $46.09 (which averages out to be .68 per item) and they say that I saved $216.73! I don't always believe that stuff because I would never spend $200 on this amount of food, but I still feel like I got a pretty good deal and helped build up my food storage. I won't have to buy spaghetti sauce, shampoo, laundry detergent, cereal or mayo for quite a while! Plus I got some other things that I just needed that weren't necessarily on sale but I ended up getting them for free. I also stopped at Smith's because they were having a special where they doubled any coupon you had...

and I got some of the other stuff (4 lbs of cheese, chicken, yogurt, etc.) for only 18$ and saved $24.

You're probably thinking I'm crazy for taking pictures of my groceries, but I consider this my part time job because I end up saving us so much, so it feels good when I get a lot without spending a lot. Besides..who doesn't love a good deal?

Here are a few websites I use that help me with my shopping:

grocerysmarts.com

Pinchingyourpennies.com

Krazycouponlady.blogspot.com

Of course I don't think you're crazy, I did the same thing! I love that feeling of great deals and needing someone to share them with.

Oh my heck...I am impressed. I have heard of the 5 newspaper thing, but never really knew the particulars. I will have to check this out, he doesn't like to save a little money...

My mom does the same thing so I always go grocery shopping with her and share her coupons :) My only problem? No deep freezer + no cabinet space, etc. = no room for food storage!! It's so frustrating!! Looks like you got so many good deals though, that's awesome!

That's awesome, Kathy Diamond does this in our neighborhood and I just need to get to it!! I would be taking pictures of it too, that's great! Gotta be proud of how much you save.

Nice work. I think it's great you do this and seriously you're completely right about it being like a part-time job.
