On Saturday (April 19), I ran a 5k with my parents and sister-in-law Aimee. It was benefiting Primary Children's and was held in Ogden.

First of all, for all those avid runners out there who think a 5k is pretty dang easy, I just need to mention that I am not much of a runner. I love working out and usually do 5-6 times a week, but running really isn't one of my favorite ways to do it....until recently. Two things influenced my change of heart:
#1. My husband Rob decided a few months ago he wanted to get a little more physical activity in his life besides working construction all day long. So, he decided to run one day and ran about 4.5 miles and came back saying it was easy and he could've gone longer. Well, I figured, "hey, I've been working out regularly for years now and if Rob can do it, I can too." (by the way, I totally killed myself. I way overdid it the first time (that pride thing) and was a big walking, sore muscle the next few days. Why is it so easy for guys?)
#2. This 5k, which I can thank Aimee for bringing into my life.
#2a. I want skinny legs and running is a great workout for the lower body.
So, going into this 5k I just thought it would be a good experience to work toward a goal and contribute to a good cause. My main goal was to run the whole thing and finish within 35-40 minutes. I wasn't looking to win or even push myself much, but I was just looking forward to the workout and experience. Well, my parents are among those that are avid runners who think a 5k is pretty dang easy and right from the start I had my mom running right next to me pushing me to do better. I knew she could run faster than me and so I did push myself so she wouldn't have to slow down for me so much. She gave me a goal at about 2.5 miles to finish before a girl who had been running about 50 yards in front of us the whole time. Well, little did she know, I took that goal to heart and during the last stretch of the race I began sprinting until I had passed this girl and then passed the finish line. My mom finished about .5 seconds behind me, but it was so awesome to hear her behind me saying "keep going Bri, you got it!" I finished in 33:19 and turns out it was longer than a 5k (not to mention several hills that I wasn't expecting or had prepared for). I am looking forward to running more 5k's and eventually a 10k, but that is as far as it goes for me. I think marathon runners are crazy!!
All in all, it WAS a good experience and although I didn't win (not by a mile!..literally) I did push myself and felt the thrill of accomplishment.
Since I was gone all morning, Rob took care of Anisten and he did her hair!! This was a first for him and I gotta say, I was quite impressed.

Hey, this is Tiffany (Schryver) from high school (and junior high)...long ago, I know. I don't know if you remember me. Your family is so cute and congrats on the 5K; I agree that they are not easy :)
I am actually running one on Friday, so that's funny. And I'm not a runner either, so it'll be exciting; Erik is going to push Kire in the stroller, so it'll be easier for me to keep up. You guys look great and Anisten is darling : )
Way to go... both of you!
I think you are crazy, but that is why I am overweight and wouldn't think of running. Way to go! And Rob impressive work on the hair. Just don't get any wild ideas like Paul. He tries a ugly 5 braids all over the place on Madison. Yikes! The last time he did it just for bedtime she wailed..."I look terrible." and she really did.
Way to go, I should be more like that..Anisten is so cute, when Thiago is home with Carson, I am lucky if he gets him out of his pj's, forget getting him in the bath and doing his hair.
That is awesome! I have just started to try the whole running thing! Just last week so we will see how it goes! Good for you to run a 5k. Your little girl is so cute! I am quite impressed with Robs hair doing abilities!
Good job Bri!! That is quite an accomplishment! What a fun way to run it, with your mom!!!!I am pretty proud of Rob with Anisten's hair! When Paul has Brooklyn all day she is all natural!!
Wow, Robbies got skills. Of course I think we all knew this. Good Job, Bri. We were up there that Friday and would have slept over but I had a 5K in Lindon the next morning. We should get together and do another one.
Wow Bri that is awesome! I have to say I am quite impressed hopefully I can be in good enough shape to run the 5k in DC in June I would love to be able to run the whole thing. You have definitely inspired me. Also I am very impressed Rob did such a good job on Anistens hair.
Hey Bri!! I'm so glad you found our blog! I was reading Aleese's today and saw her pics with you and was wondering if you had a blog. What a cute little girl you guys have, I love her name. So glad to keep in touch with you and of course you can link us to your site, we're doing the same :).
Bri!! Holy cow, long time no see girl! This is Steph (Hermansen) Chugg, remember me? Your long lost pioneer trek adventure buddy? Those were some good times :) I'm so happy that I found your blog!! Your little girl is so stinkin' cute and it looks like you guys are doing great! I've ran into your mom a couple times at the store, maybe one of these times I'll be lucky enough to run into you too!
